Centaurea urvillei DC.

Irano-Turanian-Anatolian-eastern Aegean

 

 

 

 

 

This species is an Irano - Turanian - Anatolian - eastern Aegean element broken up into several subspecies which are not yet clearly defined (in the images below, the typical subspecies). Very closely related to Centaurea raphanina Sm. and Centaurea lydia Boiss. which are both eastern Mediteranean species. All are not found of course in Romania but they are relatives of Centaurea salonitana though all are dwarf and with a different flower color, worth to be seen.

The habitat of the plant, a typical Mediterranean garriga dominated by Cistus creticus and Cistus salviaefolius.
