south-eastern Romania and north-eastern Bulgaria, second part of May / June

Day 1. Meeting at Constanta Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport. Going for hosting at Vila Raduinea Eforie Nord. Traditional fishermen style meal.

Visit to Agigea Marine Natural Reservation. A maritime sand dune reservation, the last patch remained from this type of ecosystem remained along the Romanian Black Sea Coast which was drastically reduced during the Communist Times for building the Black Sea - Danube channel. Species to be seen: Dianthus bessarabicus, Astragalus varius, Silene thymifolia, Ephedra distachya, Centaurea arenaria ssp. borysthenica, Eryngium maritium, Cakile maritima ssp. euxina, Crambe maritima, Convolvulus persicus, Alyssum borzaeanum, Scabiosa ucranica, Leymus racemosus ssp. sabulosus, Gypsophila perfoliata,

Visit to Techirghiol "Tuzla Hills" steppe area on the south-western shores of Lake Techirghiol. This is a rare patch of well preserved steppe vegetation from the loess plateau of Dobrudja. Species to be seen: Paeonia tenuifolia, Achillea thracica, Achillea clypeolata, Achillea coarctata, Achillea leptophylla, Adonis volgensis, Adonis flammea, Agropyron ponticum, Alyssum hirsutum, Astragalus hamosus, Astragalus sprunnerii, Astragalus vesicarius ssp. pseudoglaucus, Carduus thoermeri, Centaurea mapulifera ssp. thirkei, Convolvulus cantabrica, Dianthus leptopetalus, Dianthus pseudarmeria, Euphorbia nicaeensis ssp. dobrogensis, Hyacinthella leucophaea, Koeleria lobata, Salvia nutans, Salvia aethiopis, Satureja coerulea, Ranunculus oxyspermus, Scorzonera mollis, Scolymus hispanicus, Centaurea orientalis, Serratula radiata, Medicago orbicularis, Silene borysthenica, Scutellaria orientalis pinnatifida, Stipa ucrainica, Syrenia cana, Chrysanthemum millefolium, Thymus zygioides.

Afternoon meal in traditional style at "Imparatul Romanilor" restaurant. Slide presentation of the coming days.

Visit (by walk) along the cliff of the Black Sea between Olimp and Costinesti. Species to be seen: Limonium latifolium, Tournefortia sibirica, Echinops ritro ssp. ruthenicus, Agropyron cristatum ssp. pectinatum, others.

Return to Vila Raduinea Eforie Nord. Evening meal. Closing the program on the beach at night.

Day 2. Leaving Eforie Nord and travelling across the border to Bulgaria along the famous white chalk "Thracian Cliffs" above the Black Sea.

Visit to the botanical reservations Yailata and Kaliakra. Species to be seen: Ficus carica, Prunus mahaleb, Jasminum fruticans, Paliurus spina-christi, Quercus pubescens, Paeonia peregrina, Asphodeline lutea, Goniolimon besseranum, Goniolimon tataricum, Opopanax chironium ssp. bulgaricum, Onosma heterophylla, Ruscus aculeatus, Convolvulus lineatus, Ruta graveolens, Cynoglossum creticum, Crithmum maritimum, LImonium meyeri, Parietaria lusitanica ssp. serbica, Centaurea alba ssp. caliacrae, Alyssum caliacrae, Silene caliacrae, Erysimum bulgaricum, Iris suaveolens, Potentilla emilii-popii, Chamaecytisus jankae, Centaurea varnensis, Jurinea tzar-ferdinandii, Matthiola odoratissima, Ononis pusilla, Paeonia tenuifolia, Euphorbia myrsinites, Pyrus eleagrifolia, Clypeola jonthlaspi, Allium tauricum, Allium saxatile, Artemisia pedemontana, Bellevalia sarmatica, Scandix australis, etc.

Coming back to Romania and hosting in Vama Veche

Day 3. Leaving Vama Veche location.

Visit to the botanical reservations Hagieni Forest and the creeks along Cotu Vaii area. Species to be seen: Genista trifoliata, Dianthus membranaceus, Artemisia alba, Gypsophila pallasii, Cephalaria uralensis, etc.

Going north and visit Basarabi chalk botanical reservation. Species to be seen: Adonis volgensis, Stipa lessingiana, Stipa ucranica, Salvia nutans, Goniolimon collinum, etc.

Lunch

Going north to Targusor and visit Casimcea calcareous gorges.

Going west to Baltagesti to Allah Bair hill botanical reservation.

Dinner (traditional food) and hosting at Hotel Emi in Mihail Kogalniceanu.

Day 4.

Breakfast. Going west for visiting Allah Bair peak botanical reservation.

Crossing Dobrudja to north-east to Jurilova. Lunch and hosting there in this old fishermen traditional village.

In the evening, visit to Dolojman Cape botanical reservation. Species to be seen: Centaurea salonitana, Centaurea jankae, Achillea clypeolata, Achillea coarctata, Astragalus vesicarius ssp. pseudoglaucus, Achillea leptophylla, Goniolimon besseranum, Artemisia lerchiana, Astragalus dolichophyllus, etc.

Lunch in the fishermen's old traditional style in Jurilovca (Raluca and Heracleea lodges).

Day 5.

Breakfast. Starting the tour of northern Dobrudja.

Visit to the Enisala old genovese citadel (a lot of rare species on the barren rocks around its peak, among them Dianthus nardiformis, Pimpinella tragium ssp. litophila, Euphorbia myrsinites, Galium flavescens,etc.

Lunch

Visit to Babadag termonemoral forest with Quercus pubescens, Sophora prodanii, Nectaroscordium siculum, Astragalus ponticus, Cotinus coggygria, Dianthus pseudarmeria, etc.

Going back to Jurilovca. Dinner.

Day 6.

Visit to Priopcea peak area.

Lunch

Visit Macin Mountains near Greci. An alpine-like paradise but with with a totally unexpected steppe xeric vegetation. A very peculiar landscape never to be forgot above the Danube. Species to be seen: Stachys tenuifolia, Nothloaena marantae, Achillea ochroleuca, Allium pulchellum, Campanula romanica, Spiraea crenata, etc.

Gping back to Jurilovca.

Day 7.

Leaving Jurilovca. A short visit to the old Greek city of Histria, also interesting species there, an occasion to remind the main flora we saw across the region.

Going to the airport.
